Are they good?: Munk Packs
If you've been seeing any of my posts on Facebook, you'll have seen that I've started eating healthier. Listen up, y'all, I hike so much and burn so many calories, and generally have eaten 'moderately' healthy, that I'll be totally honest, I haven't cared to eat healthy, and really haven't wanted to. I recently had my forty-year-old (40, yes FORTY) physical, and my doctor said that I was bad for his business!
But, I've also wanted to take my fitness to another level. And, I suspect that my eating habits, while not chemically given my lab results, have probably held me back a little bit, especially when I run (or whatever I do that approaches running). I've made no secret of the fact that folks like Tanya Sylvan, Heidi Henry, and other runners and racers inspire me. I probably will never do anything more than a 1/2 marathon (Editors note: LONG LONG LONG way to go...)
So a couple of weeks ago, my friends at Munk Packs sent me some of their Oatmeal Fruit Squeezes to try out. I'm embarrassed to say that historically I haven't valued simple, plain ingredients or really been much of a label checker, except for sodium, I do check for that stuff. But I can say wholeheartedly that when you eat things that really don't contain a lot of 'crap' and pretty much only have real food in them, you can totally taste the difference!
I LOVE these little treats. They are created with real food, vegan, gluten free, receive sugar from the fruit only, and are packed with Omega-3 from flax, which I just read yesterday is pretty much the healthiest grain you can eat.
I can totally see these as camp or backpacking breakfast. I received Blueberry/Acai Flax, Raspberry/Coconut (couldn't eat this one as I'm allergic to raspberries), Peach and Vanilla, and Apple Quinoa/Cinnamon. They were all tasty as all get out!
It's also pretty clear that the folks at Munk Packs are good people which is at this stage in my life, very important to me. Good people doing good things for others are something that I totally want to spread around.
@hikingjason rating: Highly recommended
Real Talk: I am disclosing that I was provided this gratis from Munk Packs, however I have no relationship with them, nor did they ask me about my review, etc. They're just good people that believe in other good people.
